A Week in the life of... DAY 4 – BBMF Visit

The Camp at BBMF in front of the Lancaster

With it being a long bank holiday weekend the station had been extra quiet, but now everyone was back to work it resembled more of an active station with lots of people around.  Some of these people, both service and civilian, got to see the cadets practice their drill – now not only practicing for the drill competition, but also for the final parade on Friday.  The staff have been looking for a suitable VIP from the station throughout the day, so check back on Friday to see if we were successful.

After their morning drill session, the cadets boarded the coach for the journey across Lincolnshire to RAF Coningsby to visit the famous Battle of Britain Memorial Flight – the RAF’s living memorial to the aircrews lost in the Second World War.  Here the cadets got the VIP tour walking through the hanger getting up close to these famous aircraft such as the Spitfire, Hurricane and Lancaster Bomber. Of course the tour was not just looking, the cadets were treated to the insights and historical knowledge of one of the BBMFs knowledgeable tour guides.

After returning to RAF Cranwell, the cadets enjoyed some more drill and free time before departing for an evening of swimming at a water park in Mansfield, which they thoroughly enjoyed.

Unfortunately as they returned late we have no cadets’ views today, but look out tomorrow when we hope to bring several write ups of the cadet’s views and feelings of the camp so far
