A Week in the life of... DAY 3 – Camp Photo

The tradition is that every Air Cadet Summer Camp has a camp photo.  One of those photos of everyone standing in front of something to remember the time by.  Usually this is an aircraft, but here at RAF Cranwell the photo was taken outside the famous RAF College Hall, where all RAF Officers pass out from after being commissioned.  This was a good start to the day, and was the first time the cadets were inspected in their best uniforms – neatly ironed shirt and tie.

On returning the cadets were split for the rest of the day, with some having their weapons handling tests to allow them to shoot later in the week, and others using the flight simulator in the Air Cadets Regional Activity Centre or spending time with the force development squadron dong teambuilding and leadership exercises.

Cadets using the simulator had the task of flying a circuit in a Grob tutor at RAF Cranwell – well a virtual RAF Cranwell!  Some managed this perfectly, while others would have cost the RAF a lot of money if it were for real!  The regional activities centres will be set up in each of the seven Air Training Corps Regions in the UK, to allow cadets to be trained in various aviation related subjects over a day or weekend.  These were thought of as being a prime activity for cadets waiting to go Air Experience Flying, to fill the day with useful learning experiences.

The teambuilding exercises involved the cadets having to communicate, and listen, carefully to each other.  The tasks included the slightly different version of the spiderweb, making a perfect square with a piece of rope while blindfolded, a matching symbols task and various other exercises.

After a drill session with the Camp Warrant Officer, the cadets has some free time before heading out to the bowling alley on station for an inter-flight ten pin bowling competition to round off the day.

Over the remaining days we will be adding entries from the cadets themselves and certain members of staff to get their views of the Summer Camp Experience.
